Details
An electric arc furnace is an electric furnace that uses the high temperature generated by electrode arcs to melt ores and metals.
Working principle
The electric arc furnace uses electrical energy as the heat source. Electrical energy is input into the furnace through graphite electrodes, generating an electric arc between the electrode end and the furnace charge. The energy is highly concentrated during arc discharge, with the temperature in the arc area exceeding 3000°C. The high temperature produced by the arc melts the furnace charge through radiation, convection and heat conduction, and completes the subsequent high-temperature metallurgical reactions.
Advantages
The process has great flexibility and can effectively remove impurities such as sulfur and phosphorus.
The furnace temperature is easy to control and can be heated under any conditions such as oxidizing or reducing atmosphere, normal pressure or vacuum according to process requirements.
The equipment occupies a small area.
